I have an older version of this jacket in a smaller size that I wear for spring/fall/summer bike commutes, but trying to fit a small over my winter layers was making me look like a sausage stuffed into its casing. It is true to size for semi-fitted Pearl Izumi clothes -- so it will fit over a similarly sized jersey with a just little bit of breathing room, or size-up one more if you want to be able to stuff a mid layer or two under it.It packs really small. You can stuff it into its own pocket (not really made for this, but it fits). You could shove it in a large jersey pocket or into a messenger bag. This jacket is longer than the older versions. It has a very nice droptail and the single pocket is large enough for phone, emergency kit, and a snack. The screaming yelllow is super bright and someone would have to be blind not to see me at dawn/dusk wearing this. It's only water resistant -- so if you catch unexpected sprinkles on the way home, you probably won't be totally drenched, but don't count on it during real rain...There is no insulation. This jacket is good for mild weather, a wind breaker outer layer, or SERIOUSLY intense exercise only.I have the 2008 version of this jacket, and the new one is only a little brighter (so it fades very little) and much longer in the back. Great replacement! This jacket makes me very visible in all kinds of conditions. When I bike commute my co-workers tease that they'd be able to see me from the moon. Good! I like that it's lightweight, but will still hold in heat well enough for temps in the low sixties, or even lower once I start pedaling. And when it's too warm for sleeves, I wear it as a vest and continue to be very visible day and night. The reason I didn't give five stars is because the quality isn't as good as Pearl Izumi predecessors I've had. The stitching began to unravel in a few places right from the start, and the zippers are flimsier than the ones on an older Pearl Izumi convertible jacket/vest, preventing me from unzipping the sleeves on the fly. I'd still recommend it and buy it again, as the fit is nice and it helps keep me safe and comfortable.Love the look. I went running in it and it felt like it was not breathable -I don't ride as hard as I run so never get THAT sweaty - so not sure how it would be for a ride. Also not sure it is intended to be breathable for running. It certainly meets the mark for wind resistance, is light weight, awesome detachable sleeves, and nice fitted cutMost of my running clothes are Pearl Izumi. I'm petite, and their sizing is really excellent. I bought this jacket to replace my old 2012 Elite Barrier Convertible Jacket which I absolutely loved. For the price, this seemed like a steal. The fabric of the Select line is much more different than the Elite. It is more "plasticy," and I would imagine this would result in poor breathability and render it unusable in warm conditions. What surprised me the most and ultimately resulted in returning it was that there are NO front pockets! It's also worth noting that the Select Convertible jacket does not convert like the Elite does. With the Elite, the sleeves and the back flap remove in one piece, whereas the Select simply removes sleeves individually, leaving the back flap in place. I would definitely recommend spending the extra on the Elite Convertible Barrier Jacket. It is much softer, breathable, and has front pockets!Jacket fits perfectly, I ordered a small and I am small framed, and the fit is perfect. I'm very pleased with the look, feel, fit, and material of this cycling jacket. I've washed it once and hung to dry and its holding up well. I highly recommend this jacket for cyclists needing a lightweight rain/wind jacket. The sleeves are removable which can will help with core temp if raining yet hot weather. Nice big zipper compartment for cell phone, keys, energy bar in the back of back with netting. Nice collar that comes up around neck that makes the jacket attractive too.I purchased this jacket for a 5 day camping & cycling tour. It definitely helped with the wind but did not keep rain away. It did not matter if a slight drizzle or heavy rain. My shirts underneath were soaked. If you want wind resistance, this jacket is perfect. But I will be looking for a different one for water protection.Love the look of this jacket, but after a few wears, I've found the sleeves are not breathable and jacket starts sticking to my forearms (I don't even sweat that much). I guess the solution would be to take off the sleeves, but sometimes it's chilly and you want the sleeves, yet it's pretty irritating to see sweat start collecting in them cause it has nowhere to go. Probably will have to research another jacket. Until then, I've been half unzipping the sleeves to hopefully provide some air flow to my arms. Probably looks really weird. This is my second pearl Izumi bike jacket. My previous one is about 7 yrs old and it still looks like new! I love this new one! It's a lovely shade of blue and fits well. I chose this one as I wanted a jacket that was wind and rain resistant and could convert to a vest and it's worked out well. I also like how the zippers around the sleeves are enclosed under the fabric. Much cheaper on Amazon at $60 than buying it in the store. This jacket is so bright that I get a little embarrassed sometimes. But since cyclists have to be bright to be seen, I highly recommend it as it can be a life save especially during rain and winter weather. It's a shame they only have XL - as I think I would prefer XXL in order to put it over my work clothes. This is a brilliant jacket for being seen while on the bike, which was my main reason for purchase. It has a good deep pocket and it keeps the wind off, so I'm really snug when I cycle...The onlŷ slight negative thing is that it's not that breathable , when I take it off after a hour or two ride its soaking wet inside. But on the whole I'm really pleased. This is a lovely colour but much thinner that I realised. Not sure I will need to zip off the sleeves as would have to be wearing a cami underneath.Well received fits well. Wife happy! Good colour too. Good look and suits bike or running needs of the user.
